DVD Technology has just taken another leap forward with the advent of Blu-Ray and HD DVD players now upon us.

HD DVD and Blu-ray are competing next generation optical disc formats which can hold up to 10x the amount of data found on a standard DVD making them large enough to store High Definition Films at 1920 x 1080 resolution.

The main difference between the two formats is that Blu-ray has a higher storage capacity, 50GB on a dual layer disc compared with 30GB on the equivalent HD DVD (this extra space can be used for storing extra features such as interactive menus. )

Price also plays an important factor – Blu-ray players start at around £899 RRP whereas a similar spec HD DVD players start at around £599 RRP making HD DVD far cheaper and still offering a similar experience.
